Thesis subject: Contribution to the study of the behavior of conveyor belts subjected to operational stresses

Thesis of Rawdha KESSENTINI [Kes18]

This thesis deals with the study of the mechanical behavior of a conveyor belt under coupled hydrothermal effects. The structure that has been studied consists of a 4 textile layers bound together by a thin rubber adhesive layer and covered with the rubber cover. The belt composite structural was characterized using standard specimens with and without rubber layers under tensile and ageing tests. Impact tests are developed to identify the different damage modes using microscopic observations. Experimental study of reparation method was elaborated using two processes : hot vulcanization and cold polymerization. Two onedimensional and bidirectional analytic models are developed and compared with finite element models to study the hygro-thermomechanical behavior of the belt using experimental characterization parameters. The results showed that the performance of reparation method of the belt depends on different parameters. A tool for optimization and designing of the reparation is proposed taking into account these parameters.

Key-words: Conveyorbelt, coupled effects, optimization, reparation.
