Seismic protection of high rise building through periodic media strategies

Phd of XI Yunhe and theses.fr

Abstract :

The main goal of this research subject if to define efficient control strategies for high-rise building reliability improvements. Roughly speaking, three different control strategies can be employed. Practically, passive control, semi-active control and pure active control can be designed for vibration suppression. These strategies will be reviewed from either the control point of view or the structural mechanics point of view. One of the promising issue can be connected to periodic media features. In such media, there is the existence of pass bands and blocked bands. Such particular structures allow the design or efficient absorption zones improving the building protection. Such strategies will be studied with a possible combination with passive, semi-active or active vibration control.
