  • Contract Lecturer-Researcher, Tribology, lubrication and materials

Job profile Contract Lecturer Tribology, lubrication and materials

    Contract term : 1 year (Sept 2021 - Aug 2022)

The Institut Supérieur de Mécanique de Paris (ISAE-Supméca) trains engineers (under student and apprentice status) in mechanical engineering and complex systems engineering. ISAE-Supméca is recruiting for the year 2021-2022 a contractual Lecturer-Researcher (192 h Eq. TD) in the 60th section, with a profile oriented towards tribology, lubrication and materials.

    Teaching

The candidate will be required to teach in the two engineering diplomas delivered by ISAE-Supméca, i.e. the engineering diploma under student status and the engineering diploma under apprentice status (in partnership with the CFAI MECAVENIR). In this context, the candidate will be integrated into the teaching team in charge of the core education in general mechanics (L3), resistance of materials (L3), surface mechanics (L3) and choice of materials (L3). In addition, the candidate will be responsible for the pedagogical follow-up of students in the framework of their thesis (M1 and M2 apprentices) as well as in their project and internship activities (M1 and M2 students). These courses must include an aeronautical and/or space aspect.

    Research

The candidate will integrate the research theme "Tribology and Materials" (TriboMat) research theme of the Quartz laboratory. The TriboMat theme is developing an activity concerning the improvement of performance in service and the increase in the life span of mechanical parts or components mechanical parts or components subjected to severe conditions.

Lubrication strategies are one of the keys to mastering the performance and the challenges of sustainable mobility. In this respect, the TriboMat theme has long been developing experimental and analytical activities focused on the influence of surface states on the behaviour of lubricated interfaces. To further improve the understanding of local phenomena, the theme wishes to develop numerical tools to investigate the relationship between the lubricant and the microgeometry of the interface parts, taking into account thermal phenomena. This activity will have to integrate the aeronautical issues (reduction of consumption, hybridisation of engines engines, electric motors) and/or space (long duration reusable launchers, long-duration missions, etc.).

The tools developed should make it possible to take into account the specificities of materials (metallic, polymer or composite),
particularly their surface properties and topology. In addition, the recalibration of the modelling tools will be based on dialogue with tests (for which the laboratory has long-standing expertise).

The development of tools/models integrating multi-physics aspects (e.g. lubrication, thermal, materials aspects (e.g. lubrication, thermal, materials + treatments and coatings, surface texturing...) would be a plus for this position.

    Desired profile

The candidate will have a good knowledge of analytical and/or numerical modelling methods in lubrication and will have to closely collaborate with the members of the theme already involved in experimental activities under lubricated conditions. One of the key points of the profile is the test/modelling dialogue and the recalibration of the numerical model.

In addition, ISAE-Supmeca is positioned as the reference school of the ISAE group for mechanics. Therefore, the candidate’s teaching and research activities should include an orientation towards the aeronautical and space sectors.

The candidate must have a taste for teamwork and be familiar with multidisciplinary in order to ensure a transversal approach within the Quartz laboratory. He/she should have good interpersonal skills and excellent pedagogical abilities.
