Development of a methodology for modeling and simulating Digital Twins for the digitalization of manufacturing

PhD of GANDOUZI Ghayth

In the context of the digital transformation of manufacturing SMEs and Industry 4.0, digital twins are increasingly used to simulate and optimize manufacturing processes. However, their development is often expensive and complex. In this thesis, we propose a new methodology to develop digital twins for manufacturing digitization. We present a development framework based on the open-source middleware ROS2, which is used to model and simulate digital twins, as well as a specific methodology to guide their development. Guided by a reference model of the digital twin that we have developed, this methodology includes a design, implementation, and validation phase. We validate our approach with a case study involving a robot arm to show how this methodology enables real-time monitoring and control to improve manufacturing efficiency and flexibility, while reducing development complexity and costs.
