Abstract :

This study presents a new approach to locate an impact from vibration measurements. Contrary to the usual triangulation techniques which require at least three sensors for a plate, a single measurement point is used by the developed inverse method. The approach consists in identifying the participations of certain vibration modes that can be interpreted under certain conditions as a signature of the impact point. Experimental results are presented on a composite panel and on a complete Airbus A350 aircraft. The proposed methodology could be extended to other Structural Health Monitoring problems.
