Abstract :  

A new RF energy harvesting system (RF-EH) is proposed for powering low-power wireless sensor systems. The basic idea is to use two architectures, one suitable for low input power and the other for higher input power. Input power controlled switching circuits are used to select the most appropriate architecture.
Both architectures and the system have been designed, built and characterised. DC output voltages and efficiencies were measured as a function of distance from the base station for both architectures and the system.
The system was applied to power a temperature sensor and a calculator.
