Résumé  (EN) : 

This presentation will introduce two zero-power force control devices based on the concept of neutral equilibrium. Seismic mitigation techniques have been developed to reduce damage to buildings during earthquakes. Passive, semi-active, and active control are three major schools of thought in seismic mitigation techniques. Semi-active friction dampers are an emerging branch in semi-active control technology that can achieve more efficient seismic reduction effects by adjusting the parameters of the damper. In the future, seismic mitigation techniques will continue to develop to meet increasingly severe earthquake challenges. Piezoelectric actuators are commonly used for controlling friction force. However, due to their high rigidity, they are greatly affected by wear and require a relatively large preload. As a result, the control precision of piezoelectric actuators is still affected.

This study aimed to develop a low-rigidity semi-active friction damper by developing two low-energy-consumption force control mechanisms that achieved a huge force amplification effect. Subsequently, a semi-active friction damper was proposed and experimentally verified. The results confirmed that the force control mechanism easily changed the output force under low energy consumption, and the semi-active friction damper achieved high-precision friction control. In the future, further exploration will continue to be conducted on the applications of the aforementioned dampers and force controllers in other fields.

Biography (EN) :

Ming-Hsiang Shih received his Dr.-Ing. in Institute of Mechanics and Constructions from Rheinisch-Westfällische Technische Hochschule Aachen, Germany. In 1989, he worked at Sinotech Engineering Consultants, Inc., Taiwan as a project engineer and completed several major state construction projects in Taiwan. Currently, he is a Distinguished Professor in Department of Civil Engineering, National Chi Nan University, Taiwan and also Advisory Committee of National Chin-Yi University of Technology. His current research interests include Structural Control, Semi-Active Damper and Isolation, Dynamic Testing, Application of Digital Image to Measurement, On-Line Monitoring, Experimental Biomechanics, Numerical Methods, Finite Element Method, Nonlinear Model, Computer aided Monitoring and Control and Green Engineering.
